Pioneertown in the Mojave Desert near Joshua Tree National Park, is one my favorite place to go in the Mojave Desert. The rustic frontier town was built as stage sets for hundreds of films and tv shows that are an integral part of the American folklore of the old west.

A fun day in the Mojave desert involves kicking up a lot of dust. My spirit soars when the tires drive off the pavement and onto the dirt road. The back roads of the Mojave Desert are one of my favorite playgrounds. When I go up there for a day or even just an afternoon I return feeling like i have been away for a week.
Shadows and sunbeams dance across the Joshua Tree National Park hills. The Mojave desert is so beautiful this spring, well-watered from our historic wet winter, and with much more cloud cover than normal. This is a great chance to see the fully saturated tones and hues of the Mojave which on a typical day are very washed out from the glorious sunlight.
Most of the Palm Trees in the California desert are trimmed with a cherry picker, but some are inaccessible and need to be climbed with a rope, dexterity, and courage.
