The largest winter storm that’s hit the desert in years, including the first blizzard warning for San Diego county in history bore down on the San Diego Backcountry this week. A ferocious mix of driving wind, torrential rain and blinding snow tested our resilience, and preparation separated those experiencing quirky backcountry inconvenience, from those facing hardship.

The Coronavirus pandemic lockdown has caused hoarding, shortages & panic in many areas of the United States. Grocery shopping, cooking, and eating have changed dramatically in less than a month’s time. Grocery delivery has been unavailable due to surging demand and a scarcity of delivery company shoppers. Sunday March 22 I venture out to our local Trader Joes in Palm Desert California. The scene that unfolded left me stunned.
