Torrey Pines – La Jolla, California – San Diego Pacific Ocean Beach Adventure –
Torrey Pines Golf Course, high above the Pacific Ocean on the towering cliffs of Torrey Pines, is a must visit for golf lovers coming to San Diego, and renowned as one of the top golf courses in California. The views across the ocean and the coastline are just incredible, so even if you aren’t a golf lover, this is just such a beautiful place to come and visit. Opened in 1957, it was built on the site of Camp Callan, a U.S. Army installation during World War II. Torrey Pines has two 18-hole courses, North and South, designed by William Francis Bell. This is a municipal golf course, owned by the city of San Diego and it is open to the public.
In addition to the golf course, there are two hotels, the Torrey Pines Hilton, and the Lodge at Torrey Pines. Both of which have incredible panoramic views across the course to the Pacific Ocean, and lush sub-tropical landscaping full of soft green foliage, blooming flowers, and sculptural coastal succulents. As someone who lives in the desert and can’t grow any of those things at home, it’s such a delightful treat to be surrounded with this type of flowers and vegetation. San Diego has truly one of the most beautiful array of plants that thrive in the mild coastal mediterranean climate.

The Lodge at Torrey Pines is a whimsical and charming AAA five diamond rated resort hotel built in a Craftsman style similar to Frank Lloyd Wright. It was originally built in 1961, and then after being almost completely demolished and renovated, reopened in its present ultra luxurious iteration on 2002. Craftsman architecture is something that can be seen and enjoyed in the older areas of San Diego county and La Jolla is no exception, there are many adorable craftsman bungalows along the palm lined streets of the peninsula.
It’s been an incredible day on the coast here in Torrey Pines and La Jolla, and I’m so glad that we were able to explore my favorite beach together.
